Reliable FRP Solutions and Anti-Slip Safety Systems

A new section of Auckland's Te Whau Pathway is transforming the way people connect with the Whau awa and surrounding communities.

Opened in March 2026, the 1.3 km Te Atatū section provides an important link between the Northwestern Cycleway and Horowai Reserve, bringing Auckland one step closer to a continuous pathway connecting the Manukau Harbour and Waitematā Harbour.

For this landmark project, Treadwell Group supplied approximately 1.15 km of Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) grating for the boardwalk. Unlike traditional installations, the grating was custom moulded to match the unique geometry of the pathway, delivering a precise fit while reducing the need for extensive on-site modifications.

Designed for demanding coastal environments, FRP grating offers a lightweight, corrosion-resistant and low-maintenance solution that supports long-term performance for public infrastructure.

The completed pathway provides a safe and accessible route for pedestrians and cyclists while creating new opportunities for recreation and connection with the natural environment of the Whau River.

This project is an important milestone in the ongoing Te Whau Pathway vision, which has been championed by the Te Whau Pathway Environment Trust and supported by local and regional stakeholders since 2014.
